2015-16 | The Big Move
CIA Teaching:
2nd Year ID Studio (3cr - FA), 3rd Year ID Studio (3cr - FA), 4th Year ID Studio (3cr - FA), 3rd Year ID Studio (6cr - SP), 4th Year ID Studio (3cr - SP).
Moved into the new Design Studio and quickly adapted. Started to create demo videos for students to view outside of class and revisit them as needed.
Did 3-day furniture design/build demo (9 hours total), allowing me to assess our new shop situation and monitor student/staff interaction.
Demo of a concept contractor mobile communication device, focused on showing the entire product development process to sophomores.
Invited guest reviewers, including Sam Cahill, Scott Colosimo and David Meyers.
CIA Service:
Completed the move out of the old Design Studio and set-up plan the new studio (pictured). Because the FF&E budget was exhausted when the first moves happened in Spring of 2015, I spent the summer refinishing or designing/building low-cost furniture of the new Design Studio.
Guest Faculty, Central Academy of Fine Art (CAFA) in Beijing (Dec 2015) – Conducted one-week workshop for International Foundation Students.
Evaluated the selection criteria for the Design Intelligence rankings and set up a meeting to express my concerns (the methodology inherently favored larger programs).
Worked with Haishan Deng to design & implement transportation offerings, including new courses and defined product and transportation tracks.
Interviewing prospective transfer students and meeting with prospective students and families.
Facilitating relationships with partners like Vitamix, Swagelok, University Hospitals (UH), MOCA, CWRU, Nottingham Spirk, Smart Shape Design, Balance, Electrolux, Navistar, Kohler, GM, Fiat-Chrysler, Good Marketing, Greater Cleveland Auto Dealers Association through meetings, studio visits and course participation.
Presenting at John Marshall High School – ensuring recruitment of a diverse student population.
Guest lecturer/critic in peer courses, such as with Petra Soesman and Richard Fiorelli.
Collaboration with CWRU, including; lecturing at Case courses, facilitating student interaction, planning a joint degree (including running a transitional visual communication course) and through the Hololens effort.
Worked with Institutional Advancement (meeting with prospective donors/partners, participation in the Gala, etc.), Admissions (Open Houses, prospective student meetings, note cards) and Marketing (PR opportunities – radio, TV, print/online - and department videos).
Met with representatives from Mumbai Institute of Technology.
Participated in Open Houses/Accepted Student Events.
Organized events around the Auto Show (exhibit & press day visit) and collaborated with Admissions to make this a recruitment event.Spring Design Show planning & promotion (D. Paige was on medical leave). This was the first show to leverage the Hive Workstations. Speaker invited was Michael DiTullo.

Participated in the CIA Faculty Exhibition.
Panelist, CWRU Innovation Summit (Oct 2015) – Event that brought global experts to discuss many aspects of innovation.
Prepared a comprehensive expert witness report for an IP litigation case. Was eventually deposed.
Redesign my kitchen, which breaks many conventions. The exercise began with construction of a full-size foam core model and was developed through drawings, and renderings, culminating in the completion of a unique living space, experience and experiment.
Decided to bring my wood-burning camping stove concept to production. This process involved connecting with a factory in Asia (through Haishan Deng), outlining a marketing plan, creating content and launching a Kickstarter Campaign.
Managed the fabrication & delivery of the remaining Hive Workstations (95) prior to moving to the unified campus.
